Rahab

Light a candle and remember the presence of God is with you.
Cut out the pieces to help you tell this story.
There are times and places when women are treated as less important than men.
This is not right. God loves us all. (Pause.)
Yet, my name is still a part of God’s story.
Your name is also a part of God’s story. (Draw a heart with your finger.)
My name is RAHAB.
Place RAHAB in front of you.
My story is found in the book of Joshua, before the time of the judges.
Take time to look at the Bible timeline at the bottom.
I helped the God’s people return to the land God had promised them long ago.
The land of Canaan.
I lived in Canaan. I lived in a city called Jericho.
The stories of those wandering in the wilderness with Moses had reached our city. The people in my city feared losing their homes to them. I was scared, but God had big plans for me.
I was to help God’s people come back into their promised land from long ago.
Two men (Joshua and Caleb) secretly came to my house. They were sent by Moses.
They were people from the wilderness.
They had been followed by soldiers from my city who wanted to arrest them.
A knock came. What was I to do? Should I turn them in? Should I hide them? I was scared, but I trusted in the God of Joshua and Caleb.
I helped them hide on the roof.
I helped them come back into the land that was promised long ago.
I helped my family stay safe as they learned about this God who keeps promises.
God keeps God’s promises.
My name is Rahab. I am part of God’s story.

Joshua 2:3-5 (Common English Version)
So the king sent soldiers to Rahab’s house
to arrest the spies.
Meanwhile, Rahab had taken the men up to the flat roof of her house and had hidden them under some piles of flax plants that she had put there to dry.
The soldiers came to her door and demanded,
“Let us have the men who are staying at your house. They are spies.”
I wonder…
… how Rahab felt when she kept hearing knocks on the door?
… how Rahab knew where to hide the men?
… how Rahab knew to trust in God?
… what Rahab felt when the men were hiding on her roof?
