Huldah

Light a candle and remember the presence of God is with you.
Cut out the pieces to help you tell this story.
There are times and places when women are treated as less important than men.
This is not right. God loves us all. (Pause.)
Yet, my name is still a part of God’s story.
Your name is also a part of God’s story. (Draw a heart with your finger.)
My name is Huldah.
Place Huldah in front of you.
My story is found in the time of the Kings.
Take time to look at the Bible timeline at the bottom.
After the first three kings, (Saul, David and Solomon) the place where God’s people lived divided into a north and south kingdom.
There were kings in the north and kings in the south. I lived near King Josiah in the southern kingdom.
King Josiah was a good king. He followed God.
God gave him people, like me, who helped him follow God best. He had become king at the age of 8, and learned early to ask people for help when he needed it.
One day the story of God’s people was found by those who
were repairing God’s temple. They took the scrolls they found to King Josiah. They wondered what this discovery meant?
The story was brought to me. I was known to be a prophet, or someone who could help people understand God’s message.
I told Josiah that people would disobey God again like they had in the story. Yet, because he was a good king, it would not happen until after his time as king.
I was a prophet and shared God’s messages with others.
My name is Huldah. I am part of God’s story.

2 Chronicles 34:22-23 (Common English Version)
Hilkiah and the four other men left right away and went to talk with Huldah the prophet. Her husband was Shallum, who was in charge of the king’s clothes. Huldah lived in the northern part of Jerusalem, and when they met in her home, she said: “You were sent here by King Josiah, and this is what the Lord God of Israel says to him. . .”
I wonder…
… how Huldah felt when the scrolls were brought to her?
… what is was like to talk to a king?
… how she became a prophet of God?
… how you could become a prophet?
